What to put in a party favor bag, age by age

A good favor bag has one thing to do right now and one thing to keep. Here is how we would fill it.

  1. Ages 1 to 3
  2. Ages 3 to 5
  3. Ages 6 to 9
  4. One count for everyone
1

Ages 1 to 3

Keep it to one or two larger pieces. A bubble bottle with the wand in the cap is the classic for a reason: the grown-up blows, the toddler chases.

2

Ages 3 to 5

Add something to wear or carry. Kids' neon sunglasses are a favorite, and a mini bubble wand fits in a small fist. One of each and the bag is done.

3

Ages 6 to 9

This is the age for fidgets and gadgets: squeeze balls, multicolor pens, scratch art notebooks. They will be compared and traded before the cake is cut.

4

One count for everyone

Buy by the number of invitations, plus the siblings who come along. Our favors are packed in dozens for exactly that reason.
